Congrats ioan you have done great work covering Mexico's tragedy since the dawn of the millennium in 2000. If trump wins its interesting to see his aggressive strategy on the cartels or is it all talk for votes. But I am proud to be an American regardless of who wins and losses.

Considering the quality of content showing the intersection of drug money, cartels, politics of corruption, ravages of history and bankrupt cultures, your substack should have 50,000 to 100,000 followers! Drug money is the rotten foundation eating into every fabric of a country. As a reader, you cannot specialize in your reading. Economics, politics, self improvement and history cannot be studied separately when you have the cancer of drugs infecting the body politic. That cancer and all of it's ramifications are only discussed and pointed out in CrashOut which will become even more important after the US Election. Whoever wins, the cancer of drugs will be expanding. Solutions from both sides will only create more corruption and more tragedy for Mexico. Keep your head down and safe and it is going to get real nasty and extreme very soon.

Thanks there Tom - 10 K was the first objective but now it goes up. Yep, these issues continue to reverberate and agreed, things could get nastier. But at least I get to write and it's a privilege to have you and others here for this ride.

Ioan,

Congratulations on 10k milestone, 90k to go! Love Dr Drift's CO Theme song. Perfect. Thank you for acknowledging your readers with a heartfelt thank-you video. Real independent journalism rocks. The questions from readers were fascinating and your multimedia answers were amazing. The story CO, tells, is truly multinational. You're on the ground reporting, giving voice, to the people most affected, the cartel's highest leaders, to the boots on the ground and their families, making it real for all of your readers. Thank you for sharing your authentic self, writing, with hope courage honesty and evidence. We are in this together

Super well appreciated brother. Yeah, 10K was my inititial objective and now I have to make it the ton - and really have some impact there. Yeah, independent journalism can be a whole new game, and, like all journalism, can be beautiful if it's done right. Great to have you here for the ride and stay in touch.

Any idea who’s winning btwn the mayos and the chapitos?

Expand full comment

It's very hard to call - but I think the Mayos began on the offensive and the Chapitos are defending hard and quite successfully

Thx. Are the Chapitos really hooking up with the CJNG?
