Imagine getting into a submarine (or to be technically more accurate a “semi-submersible”) that was knocked together by narcos in the Brazilian jungle, filling it with bricks of cocaine, chugging into the Atlantic Ocean and then spending four weeks crossing to Spain. That is what smugglers are reported be doing every month, which is making them a fortune, and pumping Europeans with disco powder.
Guillermo Galdos just released a report for Channel 4 of the UK about the transatlantic narco subs, and it’s the most in-depth investigation so far into this phenomenon, which was first discovered by Spanish police in 2019. I talk to Guillermo, a seasoned “narco-journalist” and old friend, about his investigation and some highlights in his career, such as going to Michoacán to interview drug lord La Tuta, and finding him so drunk he had to delay the recording.
Here below is also the inteview in pure audio, for those who want to listen on-the-go. Happy Fridays to the CrashOut community.
