I'm just one of "several species of small furry animals grooving with a pict". However, you've "set the controls for" 10,000 subscribers. Your good work will fuel you there.

Spoken like a true "piper at the gate of dawn." I hope to get there without getting too far to the "dark side of the moon" and celebrate with tequila and tacos to say "wish you were here..."

I had that phrase "Set the controls for the heart of the sun" in my mind since I was about 15 and listening to a lot of that early Pink Floyd - in smoke filled rooms in a small town in the UK in the eighties...

Pink Floyd are very much psychedelic maestros. The wall is a groundbreaking album. I enjoy all the British invasion bands

Obviously the fall of mayo is very surprising and unexpected. I'm still trying to. Figure out why an old time capo that has never been caught would be duped so easily. I wonder how much info he has on Mexican officials that have covered for him for so long. And what that means for our both countries already fragile relationships. But the question remains my dear ioan......................................................................................have you seen MUNICH!!!!!!

Ioan Grillo's avatar

I don't think he was duped that easily. He has been to a lot of meetings and didn't expect treason from his Godson. Munich, here we go!

And is it true he had a cuban relative who was involved with castro and the bay of pigs? I wonder of felix Rodriguez knows about this too. The cia cuban officer that caught che guevara in Bolivia. I have his book shadow warrior which is about his career with the agency.

There was a Cuban guy who helped the Zambadas get the start back int he 70s - and yes, he was rumored to be involved with CIA

Some people say he was getting old and just didn't care anymore and wanted to cut a deal. But who knows. I'm just curious on the dirt he has on the Mexican government.

Yeah, I'll keep an open mind but I don't think it is so likely. He's 76 years old and always lived in Mexico; you want to go from that to a prison cell in the U.S.?

You can rent or buy it on youtube. It's a pretty underrated thriller from the mid 2000s. And till this day Spielberg's last R rated movie. Can you believe he hasn't directed a film with nudity or violence since then? I know he has the family friendly ET image but I think he definitely has an edge when he directs gritty films. He has only done it 4 times in his career. Schindler's list, Amistad, saving private ryan and munich.

I watched Close Encounters of the Third Kind the other day. It looks a bit dated but still it's a classic.

ET is like one of the best movies ever made, cheesy and commercial as it is. Jaws is a total classic as well

The gangsters are the face of the shadows of corrupt politicians and societies. That is why Crashout is so valuable in chipping away at the rotting foundations of a debased world order. Ideas expressed and debated are the first steps in a real cleaning process. That is exactly why censorship, especially in those so-call liberal democracies has exploded out in the open.

Your new logo is great and invites a subtitle underneath it like "Where Pollyanna has Gone to Hell" or "Into the Realm of Real Subversion" or even "The Manual for Upheaval" as a nod towards earthquakes of the geological and political kind.

The mention of earthquakes made me nostalgic a little for California. Let's face it, the movie San Andreas should be the official state movie for California. Living in the mountains I was always hoping for the "Big One" and end up with waterfront property which I could have sold for big money. My biggest was a 7.9 but my aunt was was in Alaska in 1964 for the second biggest quake ever, a 9.2. She had an 8mm film of that quake which was amazing. First the street rises up filling the frames and then all sky. I think that quake lasted for almost 8-10 minutes. The biggest quake ever in Chile 1960 which was a 9.5 sent huge waves to San Diego which my first cousin surfed and ended up crossing major boulevards and into the bay. There was a photo taken of him surfing those waves. There is a hilarious scene in the old Charlton Heston movie Earthquake where everybody is told to shelter in the underground garage during the earthquake. That was a big comedy moment in California theaters at the time.

Take care and continued success and I always look forward to reading Crashout after two week trips into the forest and waterfalls surrounding Lake Superior.

I love this phrase "chipping away at the rotting foundations of a debased world order" - I could use that as the slogan! "Into the Realm of Real Subversion" as well.

Yeah, earthquakes are freaky but there is something cool about them as well (despite the obvious tragedy and death). It's like suddenly the world is not solid anymore and reality is shaken up and the earth is showing it is still stronger than us.

The forest around Lake Superior sounds amazing. Mexico City is great in many ways but I miss living close to nature and soak it up whenever I can.
