Great stuff as always Ioan. As a Juarez native, I feel hopeful that there are brave journalists like yourself and your peers who try to give sense to our desensitizated, bloody everyday reality.

Thanks so much for reading and yes, it is tough not to get desensitizated to this. I'm very find of Juarez despite the bloodshed. Best there and keep in touch friend.

Ioan...thanks for the outstanding work, as always. One question...do the Mexicans gangs discriminate? As a large portion of the deportees are of non-Mexican nationalities; just curious if they recruit those folks or strictly stick with Mexicans. Thanks.

Hey there Tyler. Thanks much for reading and for the question. In Mexico itself, the gangs and cartels have a history of recruiting and working with people of a range of nationalities, including Colombians, Guatemalans, Hondurans and on the U.S. side white and black Americans. I am pretty sure the Barrio Azteca and Mexicles will not be choosy. Some of the older California-gangs used to discriminate though. Best there and stay in touch friend.

The gang data base put together over decades in Chicago is going into the trashcan.

Should be a great place for turf battles.

Is that right? It would be great to get to see some of that gang data before it's thrown out. Best there David keep in touch there.

It is to be destroyed not shared or saved, by law.

It's discriminatory.

Too many black and brown people, evidently not enough KKK

This is news to me. I'll have to look into this, thanks for pointing out and best.

Yes

Cook County voted it out in 2019, but the police have been fighting getting rid of it.

The new commie in charge has said its got to go.

The courts have already upheld it's destruction.

Great Journalism as Always Ioan. One of the Greatest books I have ever read was “Murder City, by Charles Bowden, which was about Juarez. I would love to hear more stories about the Federal Officer. With ALMO dismantling Federal Police Forces, it’s seems like it’s a lonely battle. I admire folks who fight the good fight , regardless of the situation. Both The US and Mexico, have leadership that seem immune to seeking a long term border solution. It’s the “pass it along to the next guy” style of management. Thanks for the work you do, and PLEASE thank your Federal Officer friend and the Brave Men that protect him.

Yes, Bowden was a great writer. I shared a panel with him at the LA festival of books back in 2012. Rest in peace to him. More on the law enforcement and all best to you Bobby.

So let me get this right

The US has turned Mexico into a warzone because of their citizens need for drugs. Mexico has become worse than Ukraine, which is causing good people to flee to the border to escape all the violence.

If we fight the border war, the bad guys just get stronger because desperate people join the gangs. And if we tried taking the drug war seriously, we’d essentially have a large group of killers desperate to fight to keep their revenues flowing.

So what happens now? How long does the cycle continue?

Very well put, and that circle of death be get depressing. I think it has to break eventually but there will be more years of this yet to come. Still, we have to keep seeking for ways to get put of it. Thanks much for the comment and stay in touch Rufio.
